Toivo's First AKC Show
"Toivo", Typical Toivo of
Dark Brightness was entered in his first AKC show in December 2003 and
came away with Winners Dog, Best of Winners and his first AKC point!
Toivo was superbly handled by his other mom, co-owner Kathy Madden of Montage
Belgians. Look for these two to hit the show rings again once
Toivo comes back into coat. In the meantime, Kathy and Toi will continue
to focus on his herding training. Thanks, Kathy, for everything, and
thanks, Angela, for allowing Toivo to come to the U.S. We couldn't
be more happy with him!
Health Clearance News
We are pleased to announce that "Marissa"
Mahagonny's Rites of Passage, and "Toivo",
Typical Toivo of Dark Brightness, passed their CERF exams at the UBSDA
National Specialty in October. Toivo also received his OFA ratings
of Hips Excellent, Elbows Normal. His MSU complete thyroid panel was also
normal. Yippee! It's Always nice to receive good news on the
health front.
New Therapy Dog Title
Huge congratulations to "Maxwell"
BasqueLaine-Montage Secret Agent HIC, NAJ, CGC, TDI, SS, WETT, and his person, Rusty Pearson,
passing both the
CGC test (Canine Good Citizen) and the very rigorous TDI certification
test (Therapy Dog International) in the month of October 2003. The
TDI character test is quite difficult to pass as the dog must be very
outgoing, yet calm and obedient, exhibiting the extreme stability needed
to deal with many odd situations and people behaviors. Maxwell is the second
from our Spies'N Heroes litter to be certified as a therapy dog -- litter
brother Merlin has already been busy as a therapy dog often accompanying
owner Ray Wiseman to work as an occupational therapist. We look
forward to hearing of Maxwell and Rusty's future accomplishments doing
volunteer work in hospitals and nursing homes.
Spies'n Heroes Agility News
A couple of the "Spies'n Heroes" kids were busy burning up
the agility rings during the
months of September and October:
"Merlin" and his
owners/handlers Marti and Ray Wiseman made their USDAA agility debut in
Greensburg PA. Merlin had an impressive run in the Jumpers class for 1st place, and a 4th
place run in Gamblers. Then it was on to a NADAC trial in Columbus,
OH, where Merlin picked up two Standard Q's and completed his Novice
Jumpers title. Merlin is now
more formerly known as BasqueLaine-Montage Secret Passage NJC CGC TDI.
Congratulations Marti, Ray, and of course, Merlin!
"Maxwell" and his
owner Rusty Pearson made their AKC agility debut earning their NAJ title
with back to back 1st place runs. They also had a qualifying run in
NA good for another 1st place. The following weekend Maxwell picked
up his first Open Jumpers Q good for yet another 1st place with an 8 second lead,
including 10 weave poles in under 3 seconds! Go Maxwell and
Rusty! Max is now more formerly known as BasqueLaine-Montage Secret Agent HIC,
NAJ, CGC, TDI, SS, WETT.
These two speed demons are the same boys who can
easily switch gears and become calm and gentle therapy dogs when called upon to do so! We are very proud of both of them and
their dedicated owners.
A 2nd Dutch CAC for Sharif
Owner Angela Pos from the Netherlands reports that "Sharif"
BasqueLaine Blackwater Special Red, recently earned his 2nd Dutch CAC.
Sharif is now half way to his Dutch Championship. Congratulations
Angela and Sharif!
Another Water Dog Title for
Maxwell
The amazing "Maxwell"
UAGII BasqueLaine-Montage Secret Agent NAJ HIC CGC TDI SS WETT, and his
owner Rusty Pearson recently earned yet another water dog title. The open
level WETT title includes rescuing a "drowning" person. Quite an
accomplishment for such a young dog! Congratulations to Rusty and
the ever versatile Max.
New UKC Agility titles!
We are pleased to report Rusty Pearson and his Tervuren boy "Maxwell"
had another awesome
agility weekend at the UKC trials in Springfield, Missouri. On
Saturday Rusty and Max had back to back qualifying runs to earn both their
UAGI and UAGII
titles with a 2nd place (198) and 4th place (190) respectively. After moving up
on Sunday this duo had four more qualifying runs good for 2nd (195), 3rd
(195), 4th (195),
and 1st (200) placements picking up 10 points towards their UACH. Not bad
for only their second weekend out. Once again Maxwell was one of the
fastest dogs on the course. Rusty reports that Max's speed and
focus gets everyone's attention. Watch for even greater
accomplishments from this novice agility team in the future. Maxwell
is more formally known as UAGII BasqueLaine-Montage Secret Agent HIC SS
SWET. He is
out of our Spies'n Heroes Litter
by George out of Marissa. Click here to view photos
of Max in action.
Tervuren Puppies born August 2,
2003
Our Swedish import, "Serah" Hexen House
Iserah, was bred to the dynamic "Teva" Am/Can Champion
Montage Jazz Festival OA OAJ, OAC, OGC. Puppies arrived late at
night on August 2, 2003 (and into the early hours of the next
morning!) We had eight healthy, vigorous
puppies -- 5 boys (4 red, 1 gray) and 3 girls (all red). Pups are
now all off to their new homes. This was a co-breeding with Natalie Vivian, Blackcomb
Belgians. Thanks to Natalie for
allowing us to have Serah's first litter! Visit the Teva

Agility News
Congratulations to Rusty Pearson and
his boy "Maxwell" BasqueLaine-Montage Secret Agent HIC SS
SWET.
Their UKC agility debut in Tulsa, OK, proved successful with Maxwell earning
2 legs each in UAGI and UAGII. Max's first UAGI run earned him 1st
place with a perfect 200 score and beat the course time by 29
seconds! Rusty and Max were within a second or two of taking home
High in Trial. Max's second qualifying run was good for fourth place
(198) and was once again the fastest time in his division (by over 10
seconds). Maxwell's first UAGII run earned him fourth place with a
score of 195. His second qualifying leg wasn't good enough for a
placement, but hey, they'll take the Q. ;-)) Maxwell is out of
our Spies'N Heroes Litter by
George out of Marissa. We look forward to more great news from this novice
agility team!
Maxwell the Water Dog
In addition to his first agility Q's, "Maxwell"
BasqueLaine-Montage Secret Agent HIC SS SWETI, recently earned his
first two WET Dog titles. Rusty says Max breezed through the Social Skills
(SS) which is comparable to the CGC test and then passed 4 of the 5 tests
needed to earn his WETT title. Unfortunately, he came up a little
shy on the 5th test (saving the drowning victim). So, instead he
earned his SWET title (Started in Wet Dog). They will retake the
test a little later in the year and swap out their titles.
Congratulations Rusty and Maxwell! We are very proud of both of
you. Maxwell is truly proving himself to be quite the versatile dog!

Sharif Wins a Dutch CAC
Once again congratulations are in order for Angela and
Bert Pos, Of
Dark Brightness, and their awesome boy, "Sharif"
Basquelaine-Blackwater

Youth Class (highly unusual) at the Goes show under judge Mrs. V. Gellicum.
Sharif can add this win to the RCAC he's already won in Holland as
"points" towards his Netherlands championship.
Herding News
We are very proud and pleased to announce that
"Hero" can now add a Canadian HT title to the end of his
name. The "Little Man" can now be formally referred to as
BasqueLaine-N-Maximum Sons of Liberty HT. This was Hero's first
herding trial and he had two nice qualifying runs to earn his title.
Hero's herding trainer/handler was
Lynn Leach. Congratulations Hero! Now on to
the trial level in the U.S.
